“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10
THE UNKNOWN MAN
He lays on the ground,
a cup in his right hand.
Would anyone help him?
Could someone understand?
He didn’t deserve poverty,
to live on the side of a street.
He tried everything he could do,
to make all of his ends meet.
It all happened one tragic day
His home burned to the ground
His family was taken suddenly,
no one left to stay around.
He had no more money,
his insurance was no more.
Why was he still around?
What was worth living for?
But no one knows his story,
No one would believe that it was true.
Some dropped him some change
to help him make it through.
But that’s not enough money
to buy food everyday.
Or clothes and shoes for his feet
or a warm place to stay.
He got up and began to wander
and saw a church across the street.
Maybe he can go in there
and get some food to eat.
He walked inside the doors
and there was no one in sight.
As he walked a little further
he saw a bright shining light.
There in front of the church,
was a golden cross on the wall.
As he looked a voice said,
“He died for those He’d call.”
He turned to where he heard the voice,
and saw a man sitting in a pew.
He was dressed in old ragged clothes,
that were far from new.
He contined talking to him,
with a slow, humble tone.
“I know how it feels,
to be suddenly left alone.
See, I have money and property,
although no one would ever know.
That haughty and selfish attitude,
is something that I’d never show.”
“Then why are you living,” he said
on the streets with bums like me.
You could be happy and safe
not living in this poverty.”
The man got up out of the pew,
and walked to where he stood.
“I lived that life of selfishness,
but it was evil, not one bit good.
I know now what’s important,
it’s not money, jewelry, or wealth.
It’s no family, property, fame,
and not even your health.
All of those things are useless,
they mean nothing to the Lord.
What’s important is to be saved,
and daily living out His word.”
“How can I do that?
What can I say or do?
How can I live my life for Him
with all that I go through?”
“Christ suffered the beatings and mocking,
that dark day at calvary.
He died a cruel and harsh death,
so that His children can be free.
Ask Him in your heart and believe,
that He died and rose again.
He will purify your heart
and make you clean within.
He has a purpose for us all,
for me, for you, and every man.
For He has it in control,
it’s all part of His great plan.”
Then he began to cry,
as tears rolled down his face.
“Dear Jesus come in my heart,
right here in this very place.
Don’t leave me ever Lord
I want to live my life for You.
I realize what You did for me
and all that You went through.
Let me live for You always
and tell others of Your love.
No matter where I might be
let me turn to You above.”
He ended his prayer and said Amen,
he opened his eyes to look.
The man was no where in sight,
but on the pew laid a book.
It was a Bible and a note that said,
“John, please keep this and read.
Go out and tell all you meet
and use this to plant His seed.”
How did he know his name?
He never said a word.
But that didn’t matter one bit,
for now he had the Lord.
