“For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” Hebrews 9:26

The cross of Jesus Christ represents numerous things. And this week I am going to cover 3 of the things that the cross represents.

The Cross Represents REDEMPTION

**Substitionary – Christ died in our place:

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

We are the ones who deserved to suffer and die. We are the ones who were born into sin. We are the ones who are sinners. Christ knew no sin. He was perfect, holy, and without blame. Yet He suffered a cruel and horrible death in our place. Who are we to think that we deserve so much and complain when we are suffering! Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died so His children may live. Isn’t that enough to keep us joyful every day of our lives!?

**He died for the sins of His children:

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21

“I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.” John 10:14-16

“But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” John 10:26-28

God sent His Son to die for His children. From the moment that we are conceived, we are sinners. We don’t stand a chance against sin. The only way that we can have eternal life is through the blood of Jesus Christ. Because of our sin, His Son had to die. It was the ONLY way that His Children can be spared from the punishment of their sins. Without the shed blood of Jesus Christ, we would spend eternity in hell. But God’s grace spares His children from His wrath, and they are resurrected from the grave of their sin, into the kingdom of God.
