“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” Romans 5:10
The Cross: RECONCILIATION
“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:20-21
One of the definitions of “reconcile” is: to restore to friendship or harmony. Before the fall of Adam and Even in the garden, man was in harmony with God. After the fall, mankind became guilty and ashamed (And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. Genesis 3:10) They were no longer a creature who would never die, but became under the power of death. (Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Romans 5:12). They lost true fellowship with God as they once had experienced (Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3:23-24) Sin had entered the world. Man was no longer in harmony with God. He became an enemy of God for He was now of the world. (Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. James 4:4)
Through Christ’s substitionary death, God’s children are reconciled to Him. They are no longer enemies with God, but a child of God. The only way that man can be reconciled to Him, is through Him. Reconciliation cannot take place by what we do. It is solely by the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ that we are reconciled to God. He has restored friendship and harmony between God and His children.
If we only remember that our salvation comes from God, maybe we will stop taking it so lightly. We should ponder on what Christ has done on the cross. We should endlessly praise Him for His saving Grace. There should never come a time that we think of how little we have and how little God has done in our lives. We should take joy in the God of our salvation!!
“Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” Habakkuk 3:18
