“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21

I am sure that many of you have seen someone who “professes” to be a Christian living a very un-christian life. And sadly enough, we see this often in the media, in the government, and in our own churches.

Many times unbelievers get a picture in their head that Christians are “hypocrites” because they have seen someone profess to be saved but yet lives a wordly life. You can’t just say a little prayer one Sunday and then live out your life any way you want to. Even though you attend church every Sunday, that doesn’t make you a Christian. Just because someone is “converted” to church, doesn’t mean they are necessarily “converted” to Christ.

Some people may say that a person who “claims” the name of Christ and then later lives out a worldly life has lost their salvation. Some people think that if you backslide far enough away that you will lose your salvation. But the question that we must ask is “Was that person truly saved in the first place?”

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21

It is not our place to judge whether someone is a “true” or “false” Christian. Only God knows their heart. But someone who is truly saved will show it in the way they live their life.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

When someone is truly saved their heart will be regenerated. They become a new creature. And they have a desire to please and serve God.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

We are too quick to point out other people’s sins. And to question whether they are saved or not. But we need to focus on our own lives. We need to ask God to reveal to us the things in our lives that we need to change. And then concentrate on getting our own hearts right before Almighty God!
