“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.” Colossians 3:18
This verse is one of many verses that has been twisted around to fit our own lifestyle. It has been changed to “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as you see fit”. Why is it that “submission” has become a bad word? But yet “selfishness” is a word that is being promoted in marriages?? Faithfulness has now been replaced with selfishnes. How sad!
In what ways are you faithful to your husband? You probably are thinking of a list of all the things you do to show your husband that you love him. You clean. You cook. You take care of the kids. And the list goes on and on. But let me ask you this…. Are you being faithful to Him by your standards or by GOD’S standards? We can say that we love our husbands by all the things we do, but yet we often ignore how God calls us in His Word to love them.
I am a stay-at-home mom and “house”wife. I have been since I was 2 months pregnant.(over 5 years ago) And of course when I stayed home I got the usual response from people “don’t you want to help your husband earn money?” Or “don’t you feel like a prisoner in your own house?” People thought that it was awful that I actually ENJOYED being home with my husband and child. In today’s society a stay-at-home mom is looked on as a “prisoner” rather than being a Godly wife/mother.
Think about your life. Now think about how you act towards your husband. How do you see him? Do you see him as a babysitter for your children? The minute he gets home from work you pawn your children off of him because it’s “his” turn? Do you respect him and the fact that he has been at work all day? Do you see your husband as someone to “relieve” you from what you have been going through all day? Do you ignore that he might be under stress too?
We live in a world where we are taught to think of ourselves first and foremost. But where is this taught in the Bible? May we all seriously pray and read God’s Word to find out how we are to be as Godly wives.
