“Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” James 1:15
The verses that we have studied yesterday talk about how we are to live. But they also tell us something else… how we are to THINK.
Our thoughts lead to actions. You cannot do something without thinking about it first. Even something that is “spontaneous” had to have some thought to it. So actions do not just happen… they are “products” of our thoughts.
This is why it is soooo important to make sure what we think is pure, holy, good, and acceptable to God. If we are pondering on things of the world, then we are going to do things of the world. It may not happen the first time you think of doing something, but the more and more you
think about it, the more and more likely it will happen. Just as when a woman conceives a child, she gives birth to a baby… when wicked thoughts are conceived they give birth to sin.
We are to hold our thoughts captive if they are not pleasing unto God. Don’t sit there and think about it. As soon as it pops in your head, hold it captive. Go to God in prayer. Open God’s Word and study it.
What do you think about? Do your actions reflect your thoughts — whether it be holy or wicked? Are you pondering on things of God or on things of the world?
