“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is

that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1-2

Sometimes we think that living out the “characteristics” in Philippians 4:8 is just a “good” thing to do. And we forget that it is a command from God. And just as any other of His commands, when we break it we are sinning against Him.

Today’s verse is yet another “familiar” passage. It says not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed. And notice it doesn’t just say that our words or actions to be transformed, but it says… “transformed by the renewing of your MIND”. So it’s not just our words and our actions that matter, but what we think in our mind as well.

When we don’t follow out Philippians 4:8, we are breaking Romans 12:1-2 as well… yet another command from God. As children of God we are NOT to take part of the things of the world. And when we are pondering on the things of the world, we are conforming to the world.

Philippians 4:8 and Romans 12:1-2 go hand in hand. You cannot follow one verse and break the other. When you break one, you break both of them.

Are you conforming to the world? Are you transformed by the renewing of your mind? Are you being obedient to God in what you think, say, and do?
