Tonight we had our first Coffee Moms Devotional meeting at our local ice-cream & coffee cafe. Five of us Moms sat around a table. Learning a little about each other. Laughing a little with (and at!) each other. And of course, drinking some coffee (or tea!) together. What a great time!
I asked each of the ladies to fill out a questionnaire. It had questions like “what is your favorite brand of coffee” and “how does the woman sitting on your right like her coffee?” Light questions to get the conversation going. But if you knew us, you would know we don’t need a piece of paper with questions to get us chatting!
Everyone shared about their coffee likes and dislikes, when they drink it, why they drink it, etc… We were very different in our coffee choices. In fact, as we sit around the table, all of us had different drinks sitting in front of us. I, of course, had my iced decaf cranberry mocha. And one lady even had chai tea. (we’ll forgive you for not drinking coffee at a coffee moms devotional group! LOL)
But after we were done going over our “paper”, I asked a question:
What was the common denominator in our coffee choices?
The simple answer is – the bean.
None of our drinks (except for our chai drinking Mom!) could have been made without the bean. Even though they were all prepared different ways… presented in a different way… and even sipped in a different way… they were all made from a coffee bean! The bean is the commonality!
The women at tonight’s meeting were just like these coffee drinks. We all had faith in Christ (the bean) but yet we differed. God has prepared, made, and presented us all in different ways – just like the coffee drinks. We all have different talents, gifts, and personalities…. we are a very special blend!
So the next time you see a coffee bean, let it remind you of your faith in Christ. And how from that faith, you can be a wonderful, beautiful, and creative masterpiece!
