Patience is a virtue. But unfortunately we often call something “Patience” when really it’s something far different. Patience: Waiting for God’s answer… seeking Him through prayer, His Word, and fellow believers.
Rebellion: Knowing full-well what God wants us to do, but not doing it. Patience: Waiting for the right “time” to do what God wants you to do.
Laziness: Not feeling like doing it at that moment, so we say it’s not God’s timing. Patience: Draws us closer to God and helps us to persevere.
Selfishness: We come to God demanding answers, complaining, & whining about why we have to wait. Patience: We patiently wait for unbelievers to come to Christ, only after witnessing to them & praying.
Tolerance: We expect the non-Christian to act the way they do so we “excuse” and “tolerate” it. As you can see, we label a lot of un-Godly characteristics as patience. Kinda like the whole “wolf in sheep’s clothing” mentality. And satan is very clever at making us think that our rebellion, laziness, selfishness, tolerance, etc… is really Godly patience. Why? Because he wants nothing more to destroy or hinder or relationship with Christ. He doesn’t want us to have true patience. But boy, he loves it when we carry out these others attributes in our life! Godly patience seeks God, Rebellion turns away.
Godly patience builds us up, Laziness tears us down.
Godly patience thinks of others, Selfishness cares only for itself.
Godly patience longs for others to come to Christ, Tolerance makes excuses.
Godly patience pleases God, anything else displeases Him. The question is… Are you a patient person? If you answer yes, then I ask you this question…. ARE YOU SURE IT’S REALLY PATIENCE?
