Right now….
I’m sitting on the couch with the laptop.
My husband is playing one of the kids games on the Wii.
My daughter is in my “chair” watching him play.
My middle son is sitting next to me on the couch.
And my youngest is sitting in the corner.
My son has made a nice little “fort” for himself in the corner. With pillows and blankets. He loves to sit there when we watch a movie, etc… and he’s even fallen asleep there before. It looks quite comfortable!
I told my husband that maybe my son will be a boxer one day. The whole “and in this corner we have…….” And that got me picturing a whole boxing match. Two boxers sitting in their opposing corners. Waiting to hear that bell ring so they can start to fight.
Boxers start off in opposite corners. And once that bell rings they are “at” each other the whole time until one of them wins. They never get up in the middle of the fight, shake hands, and decide to just stop fighting. No, they continue to fight until someone is “down for the count”.
Boxers know a few things….
Offense – they know how to throw punches
Defense – they know how to block punches
Footwork – they know how to stay on their toes
Did you ever get frustrated in your relationship(s) with unbelievers? When we get those feelings of frustration, we must remember the boxing match we are in. We are in the corner for Christ and we are fighting our opponent who is in the corner for the world. Our opponent wants to block our “punches” and they want to throw their own. They are going to be offended to the word of God as well as defend their own way of living. They will be on their toes and know how to lie, cheat, and get out of their consequences.
But maybe we can learn a thing or two from unbelievers. Yes, you read that right.
Unbelievers are so quick to fight for what they believe in. They are quick to defend what they are doing (no matter what it is).
How quick are we to do the same thing?
Are we quick to defend the world’s punches?
Are we quick to throw punches at the world FOR Christ?
Are we quick on our feet to give an account for what we believe in?
If a boxer stops blocking, stops punching, and stops his footwork, what is the outcome? His opponent will win.
The bell has rung.
The match has begun.
It’s time to fight!
